to this day it baffles me just how much I like the intro to this track. It came out real weird in that what I composed wasn’t necessarily what I recorded. You can probably tell: the timing feels off most of the time. What happened wasn’t planned, but I ended up liking it and it grew on me.

There’s a lot of back and forth here. I wanted to try writing a song that started ambient-ish (not unlike Burzum), evolved into 84-85 proto-death metal and again meddled with the atmospheric and introspective. Really happy that the spoken word part worked as well as it did. that would either make or break the track.

Oh, that death and sickness were banished from our earthly home! that hatred, tyranny, and fear could no longer make their lair in the human heart! that each man might find a brother in his fellow, and a nest of repose amid the wide plains of his inheritance! that the source of tears were dry, and that lips might no longer form expressions of sorrow. Sleeping thus under the beneficent eye of heaven, can evil visit thee, O Earth, or grief cradle to their graves thy luckless children? Whisper it not, let the daemons hear and rejoice! The choice is with us; let us will it, and our habitation becomes a paradise.

I met the eyes of virtue’s spawn
And welcomed the birth of a new dawn
