Hoofmarks

about

I wrote this as the OUTRO for the demo.

The entire first part of the song, before the gallopy part kicks in, is actually an acoustic version of an intro I composed in March 2015 especially for a then planned second demo. So in many ways this was the last thing that got in.

I felt I needed an end that more appropriately solidified the release as an old metal/country thing in a non-tacky way. “Hoofmarks” was what resulted from that thought-process, though much of it just kinda came to me.

Lyrics here say a lot about my approach to storytelling in this style. Down to earth and raw, even when more “demonic” or apocalyptic characteristics arise.

“Hoofmarks” was once supposed to be a cassette exclusive song, hidden track sort of thing. But I liked the end result so much that didn’t really want anyone to be left out.

I used this song on a HOOFMARK PROMO VIDEO. You can find it on YouTube, at youtu.be/lyyrlTG2rns.

Song dedicated to the memory of Steve Young and Guy Clark, both of which passed away in 2016.

lyrics

Come by at night
Stay a while
A handful of lice
Can’t be that vile

Not like us
We’ll spare no effort
When nails run short
We’ll just dig better

You sure ain’t from these parts
Watch out for hoofmarks
